DR SLEEP's DOOM.PIF SETTINGS: A CURE-ALL FOR DOOM/WINDOWS AILMENTS.
Program Filename: D:\DOOM\DOOM.EXE
Window Title: Doom Test
Optional Parameters: -nosound <other switches, if you like>
Start-up Directory: D:\DOOM
Video Mem: High Graphics
Mem Requirements: KB Req. -1 KB Desired -1
EMS Memory KB Req 0 KB Desired -1
XMS Memory KB Req 0 KB Desired -1
Display Usage: Full Screen
Execution: Exclusive
Close Window on Exit: Yes (check it)
ADVANCED OPTIONS:
Background Priority: 100
Foreground Priority: 100
Detect Idle Time: Yes (check it)
Memory Options: Leave all blank
Other Options: Up to you. I check Alt-Enter and Alt-Escape
NOTE: I have -nosound in the Parameters area only because I dislike having
to disable Windows sound events and then restart Windows. Mind you, Doom
is no fun without the sound. I use these settings only to test levels that
I have edited in Windows (which I don't really do that much anymore. I use
DEU in DOS).
For sound, remove the -nosound parameter and disable Windows sound events in
Control Panel. Restart Windows. Doom away. Also, this applies only to
Soundblaster cards as far as I know for sure (since it works for mine). Other
cards may not be so forgiving. Compatibles should be okay.
Hope this works for you. (But let me know if it doesn't. I won't give you
money or anything -- I'm just curious.)
